Democrats push to extend special session to address teacher pay, other urgent issues

At a joint press conference of the House and Senate Democratic caucuses today, Democratic officials again laid out their priorities for the Third Extraordinary Session of the 93rd General Assembly.

Citing the urgent need to salaries for teachers and school staff and to restore at least some legal access to safe abortion care, Democrats presented legislation to address each issue and called on all lawmakers to vote to extend the session when both chambers convene Thursday morning.

“We’re hopeful our colleagues will join us,” Senator Clarke Tucker said, “but we’re not confident it will happen.”

Both the House and Senate are scheduled to convene at 9:00 AM Thursday morning.
