Democrats write open letter to teachers, staff

LITTLE ROCK — The House and Senate Democratic caucuses today issued an open letter to Arkansas teachers and staff in support of meaningful pay raises.

Governor Asa Hutchinson said in June that he hoped lawmakers would consider pay raises for teachers during the special session scheduled for early August.

Every Democratic lawmaker and a small number of Republican lawmakers support the idea, but the governor has said has that too many Republican lawmakers still oppose raising pay for teachers during the August session.

Democrats continue to push for the issue to be included in the governor’s call for the Third Extraordinary Session of the 93rd General Assembly.
